Vermont Noose
Vermont has very strict laws relative to onsite sewage disposal.
It is my understanding the land required for a single family dwelling can
approach 10 acres. With new technologies being marketed, there is no more
the need to have extensive land areas to treat wastewater. New systems,
such as the BIOREN/LIVING
FILTER., do not rely on the soils to treat the water and therefore
makes large land areas unnecessary for the sewage treatment component.
However, there are many factors which speak for lowering the density of
people and dwellings. A more prudent approach may be to set larger open
spaces aside to preserve natural animal and vegetation habitats, and clustering
dwellings and commercial structures, incorporating new clean technologies
for the treatment of waste, wastewater and stormwater in less space than
that currently used. This would preserve wildlife and open space and reinforce
the base for a sustainable environment.
